Screen Shot 2015-08-13 at 9.11.46 pmGeneral Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, begins an official visit to Russia on July 14.

Patimapragorn will participate in the Sixth Meeting of the Thai-Russia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, which will be held on July 15 in Moscow. The Russian part of the Commission is headed by Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov.

“It is important that this visit comes hard on the heels of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Thailand,” said Russia’s Ambassador to Thailand Kirill Barsky. “There was a need for the parties to agree on a concrete definition, on ways of cooperation in line with the understandings that were reached in April.”

Barsky said that several new agreements are planned to be reached during the visit, and some documents may be signed in the areas of agriculture, customs, and environmental protection.

“Science and technology is also one of the most promising areas of cooperation in which our countries have a great mutual interest. A Plan of Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Thailand in the 2016-2018 year is being prepared for signing,” he said.

According to Barsky, a large delegation of more than 50 people is visiting Russia, including representatives from more than 20 ministries, banks and major companies of Thailand.

On July 16, Patimapragorn will meet Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and talk to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on a wide range of issues.

After that the Thai deputy prime minister will travel to St. Petersburg, where he will meet the local governor Georgy Poltavchenko.
